
Creative applications giving insight into the future of digital colour printing
In Lier, Belgium, May 26, 2005 Xeikon announced the results of the 8th edition of its Xeikon Diamond Awards (XDA) contest. We are proud to announce that our entry 'My Monopoly' personalised Monopoly board was judged the winner in the 'one to one communication' category.
On April 27, no less than 102 print applications were judged by a team of 5 recognised experts in various areas of the printing industry at the Xeikon headquarter offices in Lier, Belgium. The entries for this contest were submitted by Xeikon printers worldwide, including countries that had never participated before, such as Russia and Lithuania. They were invited to send in their best print applications in order to win one of the 6 Xeikon Diamond Award Trophies beautified with a genuine high-value diamond. One trophy went to the Overall Winner and the others to each of the 5 category winners.
The XDA Jury rewarded the entries representing the best business case for the printer and generating the highest added value to the printer's customer.
"All the applications we've judged tell us about the future of digital colour printing", says jury member Laurel Brunner. "Such diversity, high quality and imagination represent fantastic promotion for digital colour printing! Moreover, the huge amount of entries shows the motivation and enthusiasm of the Xeikon customer base, a sign that this segment of the graphic arts market is more alive than ever."
Promoting digital printing on a daily basis in Italy, jury member Enrico Barboglio confirms that "international award events like the XDA are a fantastic vehicle to promote digital colour printing. The entries we judged show the richness of digital printing applications and show the many possible applications. By organising the XDA, Xeikon clearly gives a strong helping hand to promote digital printing and, with this, bring forward its customers businesses and application possibilities. These kinds of initiatives should be further encouraged and supported!"
Our entry originated from a brief from Hasbro, a personalised Monopoly game. The challenge was huge: produce a personalised Monopoly board of comparable quality to the original, accompanied by various sets of personalised game cards, all to be ordered via www.mymonopoly.com . Once a website visitor has personalised and ordered his/her game, the information is downloaded and used to print the personalised Monopoly. The games are printed on a weekly run of between 20 to 100 pieces and dispatched within 72 hours. The Xeikon digital press has allowed Hasbro to reinvent Monopoly and offer their customers a unique version! No other press can offer the features to realise this job: the size of the board (50x50cm), the colour matching with the original game, the personalisation of each item, the e-collation of the cards to accelerate the finishing time. This profitable product, both for Hasbro and ourselves, is now entering a second phase.
